Ben John Greene

On May 7, 1968 Ben John Greene gallantly gave his life in the service of our Country while participating in Operation Allen Brook in Quang Nam Province, Republic of VietNam, as a member of 3rd Platoon, Bravo Company, 1st Tank Battalion in support of elements of the 7th Marines.

Ben had the lead tank that day as the force spear headed by Echo and Golf Companies, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines swept through Phu Dong (1) Ville in the Go Noi Island area southwest of Da Nang. As the sweep proceeded small arms and automatic weapons fire broke out on three sides. When the advance stalled due to the heavy amount of incoming fire Ben was killed by small arms fire as he ably manned the tanks 50-caliber machine gun returning suppressing fire, while in the direct line of the withering enemy fire.

Ben was a friend, a highly able Tank Commander and a dedicated Marine and he gave his life for the Country that he loved....

Ben John Greene is "Always Remembered" by all who had the good fortune and "Honor" to know and serve with him....
