Fred Turner,

This is in response to your "Unknown Tankers" pictures on Tim Matye's web site (Bravo Co., 1st Tanks). One picture of a tank with the white iron cross on the search light cover. This was the emblem of 3rd Plt., Charlie Co., 1st Tank Bn. Also the next picture shows the number "C-33" on the side of the tank. "This is Charlie Co., 3rd Plt., 3rd tank picture below".

Your pictures had to be taken on or after June of 1968. At that time, all the 3rd Plt's tanks had been replaced. In Dec.1967 and before June 1968, 3rd Plt. had been with BLT 3/1 and had lost all their tanks. The old tanks had the white iron crosses on the slope plate (front of the tank). When the new tanks were sent to Charlie Co., the C.O. would not let them put a white iron cross (target) on the slope plates.

I've attached two photos of the old platoon to show you the markings. The first photo is of C-32 in Subic Bay while attached to BLT 3/1. The second photo is of the whole platoon in the C Company area (near Marble Mt.). Both pictures were taken in Dec. 1967.

Semper Fi,
Sgt. Bob Tatosky
